QUICK ANSWER

What is the Onside FPL AI Coach?

The Onside FPL AI Coach is a Fantasy Premier League assistant that answers questions about your own squad rather than a generic template team. Before every answer it reads your fifteen players, the Onside projection engine, and live FPL prices, ownership, availability and fixtures — plus several seasons of Premier League history behind the projections. You choose one of three personas, which changes the voice and the risk appetite but never the underlying numbers. It shows the figures it used and declines to answer when the data it needs is missing. 1 questions a week are free on any account, with no payment details required.

Three personas, one engine

The same projections, argued three different ways. Pick the one whose temperament you actually want in the room — most managers keep two and switch when the call is close.

DATA-DRIVEN

The Analyst

Cold-eyed, evidence-first. Cites xG, fixtures, and historical accuracy. Will not chase narratives.

Clinical, precise, light irony.

HIGH-VARIANCE

The Maverick

Hunts for differentials and contrarian captaincies. Comfortable with chaos. Will tell you to risk it.

Bold, punchy, irreverent.

STEADY EDDIE

The Dogged

Defensive-minded. Long-horizon planning, points-on-the-board. The most likely to say "hold".

Calm, considered, schoolteacher-firm.

What an answer looks like

Same question type, three temperaments. Note that each answer commits to something and shows the numbers it used — that is the format, every time.

THE ANALYST

You: Should I captain Salah or Haaland this week?

Haaland. 92% conviction.

Fixtures: IPS (H), FDR 1xG (4 GW avg): 1.34Backtest: +2.8 vs consensus

Salah faces CHE (A) — top-3 defensive xG conceded over the last 6. Haaland has 4 of next 5 home, plus penalty primacy.

THE MAVERICK

You: Differentials for GW33?

Cunha. Mbeumo. Hall. Three names. Zero hesitation.

Cunha: 6.0 form · 18.6% ownMbeumo: 6.6 form · 28.6% own

Cunha is the rocket — softening fixtures, set-piece role permanence, and ownership low enough to actually move you. The crowd is wrong.

THE DOGGED

You: Should I take a hit for Mbeumo?

No. Hold the free transfer.

Hit cost: −4 ptsMbeumo EV (1 GW): +4.6 ptsNet: +0.6 pts

Marginal. Wait one gameweek, roll to two free transfers, then move with no hit. Eight times out of ten the patient play wins.

What it is best at

The captain call

Its best function, and the one most people open it for. Ask it to choose between two armbands and it answers with a name, a conviction level and the fixtures, expected goals and ownership behind the choice — not a paragraph that hedges both ways.

Whether a hit is worth it

The −4 question, answered with arithmetic instead of vibes: the cost of the hit against the projected gain over the horizon you care about, and the honest verdict when the margin is too thin to bother.

Chip timing

It reads which chips you still hold and the fixture calendar in front of you, then names the week — and will tell you to wait, which is usually the right answer and rarely the popular one.

Differentials that are actually differentials

Low ownership is easy to find and mostly worthless on its own. It looks for players who are both under-owned and projected to over-return, which is a much shorter list.

Common questions

What is the Onside FPL AI Coach?

It is a Fantasy Premier League assistant that answers questions about your own squad. Before every answer it reads your fifteen players, the Onside projection engine, and the live fixture, price and set-piece data. You pick one of three personas — The Analyst, The Maverick or The Dogged — which changes the voice and the risk appetite, not the underlying numbers. One question a week is free.

Is the FPL AI Coach free?

Yes. 1 questions a week on a free account, with no card required. Pro and Pro+ remove the weekly limit. Every persona and every capability is available on the free tier — only the number of questions differs.

Does it know my actual FPL team?

Yes, once you connect your FPL team ID. It reads your live fifteen before answering, so "should I captain Haaland?" is answered against your squad, your bench and your remaining chips rather than a generic template team. Before the Gameweek 1 deadline FPL does not release squads to any third-party tool, so until then it answers from projections, fixtures and prices.

How is it different from ChatGPT?

A general chatbot has no access to live FPL data: no current prices, no ownership, no injury flags, no set-piece confirmations, and no knowledge of your team. It also cannot tell you how confident it is. The Onside Coach is grounded in all of that, shows the numbers it used, and declines to answer when the data it needs is missing rather than inventing a player.

What data is it grounded in?

Live Fantasy Premier League data refreshed continuously — prices, ownership, form, availability and fixtures — plus multiple seasons of historical Premier League performance used to train the projection engine, and Onside's own set-piece database. Its projections are the same ones published across the site and graded in public afterwards.

What are the three personas?

The Analyst (Data-driven) — Cold-eyed, evidence-first. Cites xG, fixtures, and historical accuracy. Will not chase narratives. The Maverick (High-variance) — Hunts for differentials and contrarian captaincies. Comfortable with chaos. Will tell you to risk it. The Dogged (Steady eddie) — Defensive-minded. Long-horizon planning, points-on-the-board. The most likely to say "hold".

Can I ask it questions by voice?

Yes. The Coach input has a microphone button that dictates your question into the box. It transcribes in your browser, so no audio is sent to us, and it never sends the question automatically — you read it back and press ask.
