How rotation risk decides your FPL picks
Rotation risk is the single biggest hidden cost in FPL. A premium pick who plays 60 minutes instead of 90 loses 1 base point + 2-4 BPS bonus + 1 captaincy floor reduction = 4-6 expected points per rotation game. Over 38 GWs the difference between a locked-in pick (90+ min/G) and a rotation-flagged pick (75 min/G average) compounds into 30-40 FPL points.

Owning a LOCKED player at every position eliminates the rotation tax. Owning HEAVY-flagged players is the biggest budget burn in FPL.
The 6 fully-locked anchors
These are the 26/27 picks the model rates LOCKED at 95%+ minutes confidence across the opening 10 gameweeks. Own them with confidence:
• Raya (Arsenal GK, £6.0m) — both starts, both full games, 37.5% owned.
• Gabriel (Arsenal DEF, £8.0m) — defensive cornerstone + set-piece goal threat, 13 points from two full games.
• Saka (Arsenal MID, £9.5m) — first in Arsenal's penalty order, 20 points already.
• Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd MID, £12.0m) — penalties + set-piece monopoly, 25 points, 48.5% owned.
• Horníček (Newcastle GK, £5.0m) — both starts and every minute. Nick Pope held this slot in earlier versions of this page and has not played a minute of 2026/27.
• Isak (LIVERPOOL FWD, £9.0m) — he moved from Newcastle in the summer. Two starts, two full games.
• João Pedro (Chelsea FWD, £7.7m) — the slot Ollie Watkins held until he joined Al Hilal permanently on 1 September. 20 points from two starts, 69.4% owned.
These 7 picks consume £57.2m of the £100m budget — a skeleton, not a squad. Build outwards from it.
The 4 HEAVY rotation flags
These are the model's biggest rotation-risk flags for 26/27. Don't draft them as Tier-1 picks:
• Reece James (Chelsea DEF, £5.5m HEAVY). 112 minutes of a possible 180 across the opening two games, at 8.1% ownership. The rotation is already visible in the minutes, not just in the reputation.
• Kudus (Spurs MID, £6.5m HEAVY). 22 minutes of 180. Whatever the summer signing was bought to do, he is not yet doing it every week.
• Wirtz (Liverpool MID, £7.5m RISK). 152 of 180 — started both, finished neither.
• Gakpo (Liverpool MID, £7.1m RISK). 160 of 180, same pattern, in the deepest attacking squad in the league.
Two names this section used to carry are not in FPL 2026/27 at all: Kevin De Bruyne and Darwin Núñez. The only Núñez in the game is Marcelino Núñez of Ipswich Town, a different player entirely.
These are the picks where the model recommends single-week captaincy bets only — never as 38-game template picks.
How to use the rotation map in your draft
Rule 1: build your starting XI from LOCKED + LIKELY tiers only. Each LOCKED pick reduces your weekly rotation tax by 4-6 expected points. Cluster your premium budget on LOCKED picks (Haaland, Bruno, Saka, Gabriel) and your budget enabler on LIKELY picks (Robinson, Tarkowski, Murillo).
Rule 2: pick your captain from LOCKED tier ONLY. Haaland LOCKED. Bruno LOCKED. Saka LOCKED. Isak LOCKED — at Liverpool now, not Newcastle. The captain pick is the highest-leverage rotation decision — a rotation-flagged captain costs 5-9 expected points/captaincy.
Rule 3: bench fillers can come from RISK tier. Your 4-bench slots are not your XI — buying a 60-minute rotation midfielder as a bench filler is fine for £4-4.5m if the alternative is taking a HEAVY-flagged Tier-1 pick.
