The rule, in one line
One free transfer per gameweek. Unused free transfers roll over and stack up to a maximum of five. Every transfer beyond your free allowance is a **-4 point hit**, taken off your gameweek total immediately.
Banking transfers — the 2024/25 change most people missed
FPL used to cap rollover at two free transfers. It now caps at **five**. That is a meaningful strategic shift: you can deliberately sit on your hands for four gameweeks and then execute a five-man restructure without taking a single hit — which is close to a free mini-wildcard, and far more flexible than one.
When a -4 hit is actually worth it
A hit pays for itself if the incoming player outscores the outgoing one by more than 4 points across the horizon you hold him. In practice that means: take the hit for a genuine fixture swing or an injury replacement in a premium slot; do not take it to chase last week's hauls. The most expensive habit in FPL is the panicked -8 on a Friday night.
What resets your transfers
Playing a **Wildcard** or a **Free Hit** gives you unlimited transfers for that gameweek and does not consume your free transfer. After a Wildcard your free-transfer count resets to one the following gameweek.
