FPL player prices are set by the game at the start of each season based on expected output and popularity. During the season, prices rise and fall based on net transfers in/out each day — a player gaining 1% of the field earns a price rise of £0.1m. Summer transfers affect the initial price set before GW1: a big-money signing joining a top club will start at a premium (typically £9–12m for elite forwards).

The best FPL transfer targets are players who: (1) join a top-6 club with guaranteed starts, (2) play in an attacking position with set-piece involvement, (3) are priced under £9m (strong value relative to their minutes), or (4) replace a high-scoring FPL asset at a club with unchanged attacking output. Our player database tracks every signing's projected FPL price and expected points.

A manager change can significantly affect FPL assets. A new attacking-minded manager typically boosts fullbacks (more crosses), forwards (more chances), and midfielders in advanced roles. A defensive manager reduces the ceiling of attacking assets but improves clean-sheet probability for defenders and the GK. Players who were rotation risks under the old manager may become locks — always check team formation and tactical style after an appointment.

The FPL 2026/27 game is already open — it launched on 22 July 2026 with confirmed player prices. The Premier League season kicks off Friday 21 August 2026 (Arsenal v Coventry), with the GW1 deadline at 18:30 UK that evening. Pre-season friendlies give the last signals on formations and likely starters before the deadline.

For a new season: wait until all pre-season games are played before finalising your squad (injuries and rotation risks are clearer). Target 2–3 premium players (£10m+) with guaranteed starts and attacking routes. Fill the remaining budget with strong value options (£6–7m) from promoted clubs and teams with easy opening fixtures. Do not lock in your squad early — prices drift in the days before GW1.
